GEMS Temperature Switches

GEMS temperature switch for industrial thermal protection

A temperature switch provides a discrete electrical signal when a defined temperature is reached. The signal can activate an alarm, stop equipment or enable a cooling or heating function. TE Instrumentation supplies GEMS temperature switches and provides technical selection support as the exclusive GEMS distributor in the Netherlands.

The set point is only one part of the specification. The mounting position, electrical switching function, connections, process conditions, vibration and required action on rising temperature must also be established. Send the complete application data or existing part number so the configuration can be checked.

When should a temperature switch be used?

A temperature switch is appropriate when a fixed limit must be monitored without a continuous measurement signal. GEMS identifies applications including engines, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, hydraulic reservoirs and industrial power systems. Suitability still depends on the selected configuration and the conditions at the measuring point.

A thermocouple, Pt100 sensor or transmitter is normally required for continuous temperature measurement, trending or process control. Explore our industrial temperature sensors for those duties. A temperature switch is primarily used for an alarm, protection or permissive function around a defined set point.

GEMS PDTF temperature switches

GEMS presents the PDTF family as compact, factory-set temperature switches for demanding industrial and mobile applications. Available set points, connections and electrical configurations can differ by part number. Product status and availability must also be checked for the requested item. Review the current GEMS temperature-switch information.

Information needed for selection

For a new application or replacement, provide:

  • the required set point and normal operating temperature;
  • whether the contact should open or close on rising temperature;
  • the electrical load, voltage and required contact arrangement;
  • the mechanical and electrical connections;
  • the medium, process pressure, environment, vibration and available space;
  • any approval, ingress-protection or existing wiring requirements;
  • for replacement work, the complete GEMS part number and photographs of the label and connections.

TE Instrumentation compares these details with current GEMS product information. If a historical item is no longer available, we first establish its function and configuration before considering a possible alternative.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a temperature switch and a temperature sensor?

A temperature switch changes contact state at a defined limit. A temperature sensor provides a measurement signal that can be displayed, recorded or used for process control.

Can TE Instrumentation replace an existing GEMS switch?

We can check the existing part number and application data. A replacement is considered only after the set point, contact function, connections, electrical load and process conditions have been compared.

Are all GEMS PDTF versions still available?

Status can differ by part number. Send the complete number so current availability and the technically appropriate route can be checked.
