Thermocouple Wire and Cable
Thermocouple wire, compensating cable and extension cable connect the temperature sensor to the measuring instrument. An incorrect conductor, insulation or colour-code combination can affect the complete measurement chain. Selection therefore starts with the sensor type, temperature range and conditions along the cable route.
TE Instrumentation supplies several insulation and cable constructions for industrial temperature measurement. The exact calibration, conductor size, screening, sheath and temperature limit are confirmed for the application and current configuration.
Insulation and cable routes
- PVC-insulated thermocouple wire for general wiring within the limits of the selected construction.
- Nylon and silicone-rubber insulation where mechanical protection or flexibility is important.
- PTFE, FEP and Kapton insulation for particular temperature, chemical and space constraints.
- High-temperature thermocouple wire with insulation and protection for hot or abrasive environments.
- Multipair thermocouple cable for several measuring circuits in one cable construction.

Maintain measurement-chain compatibility
Extension and compensating cable are not interchangeable in every situation. The conductor combination, polarity and applicable colour code must remain clear through joints, connectors and terminal boxes. Documenting each transition makes future inspection and replacement more reliable and helps avoid unintended measurement errors.
